Burn on intake Manifold
I was checking the oil and I noticed this. Has anyone had this happen to them? Is this a exhaust leak? I checked the bolt and its good and tight. I also checked the wire and it is not touching the intake.

That's where the exhaust crossover is on the intake. It could be a leaky intake gasket, but probably not, the exh. crossover area gets extremely hot, nearly as hot as your exhaust manifolds and will eventually burn off most engine paints.

Didn't they used to sell, or maybe they still do(?), sell intake manifold gasket sets with a steel blank to cover that hole? Thought I remembered seeing those a long time ago?
Or, is my OFS (Old Fart Syndrome) acting up again? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Try Summit or another speed parts house.

NAPA has them also, in any flavor you want, Victor gaskets I think. Don't know part numbers but they can find them. There is the completly open style, ones with a 1/2 inch restrictor plate, and complely blocked. In Cali, you may not need much heat under there, in colder areas some heat is desirable for cold operation, also if you have EGR to be emmisions legal you need to have some exhaust available under there. You can mix and match gaskets also. Fully open on both sides gives most heat,(and the most most burned paint) older SBC were that way. Your choke spring may be heated from this also. One combination that may work is to block the drivers side, and use the 1/2 restrictor on pass side to warm choke spring.

felpro has them.they have it where you can partially block off the ports,or completely.if you look in the catalog,or on their computer, tell them it`s for a propane powered engine.they come blocked off completely.nothing at all/no hole/nada!!!i used to sell the sh%# out of these to racers that wanted a stock type gasket with that blocked off,and they are cheaper than mr.gasket,edelbrock,etc.....it`s also what i run on mine, and they do great.good luck!!
