Mounting Auxillary Battery Tray - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just bought an auxillary battery tray for my 72 Blazer from another member of this board, but I can't figure out how to mount it on the core support on the drivers side. It is definitely a drivers side battery tray, as it doesn't match the tray I have on the passenger side, and it had the voltage regulator still bolted onto it. Are there more pieces required to mount it, or are the core supports for trucks with the auxillary tray different in some way? Or am I just not seeing something? Any advice or pictures of a mounted auxillary battery tray would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think it fits just like the pass. side except your support will not have the threaded nut inserts in it. You will need to weld some in or they make nut insert kits for jobs like this. Its been several years since I have seen one but I think that was how it was mounted. Good luck John

No repop, gotta find an original, and not many left because not many were made, and it was an overlooked part for many years.

My camera got swiped at a school function or I'd take a quick pic. I'll describe it the best I can.
Outboard side: upper and lower uses nut plates attached to the tray. Bolt from front to back. Upper bolt hole is just below the radiator support corner brace above the headlight cut-out. Lower bolt hole is in the raised area below the healight cut-out. Think the middle hole was used for grounds, it does not contact the radiator support.
Inboard side: Upper and lower uses nuts and bolts. Bolt from back to front. Upper and lower bolt holes should be obvious. Middle hole not drilled on my factory optioned truck.
Once installed the outboard rear corner of the tray will rest about an 1"- 1"1/4 above the wheel well.

I bought a universal battery tray and cut up an old rusted out passenger side tray. Cut, reversed and welded the mounts a little and wa la (wa la?) an auxiliary driver side tray.

Thanks for the pictures guys. After seeing these, I'll need to just fab a tray or use one out of a later model vehicle. I mounted the electric fan controls on that vertical rail next to the radiator

GM usually engineers all options into things, later years may have things earlier years wont because an option wasnt available when , for example, a core support was stamped.
On most of my findings with GM sheetmetal, there will be stamped "tits" into the core support where an assembly worker could find the location to drill holes for otions ordered. There may likely be this on your core support in that area if your core support is the correct year item for which you are mounting this battery tray on...
Take a look and see if you have this...

Jimmy72Custom - I applaud your ingenuity on that tray.

To answer someones question, it is an original auxillary battery tray that I bought from CSTHugger off this board. It was an excellent piece at a good, fair price in my opinion. I do not believe that these trays are being repoped at this time. BTW, CSTHugger is very good to deal with when buying parts.

Did not realize they are so rare. I just bought because I thought it was cool. It is in VERY nice shape. I have a Camper Special, so I thought it might come in handy some day. If someone is DESPERATE for one I would let them have this one. Or if someone wants to use this one for a pattern to fab one, that would be OK too. Take care, Hot Rod
