Engine pulley ?

I'm now getting to the end of the 350 CI buildup and need some help on pulley setups. It seems that whoever had the 70 GMC before me, changed the alternator to the pass. side and used a long water pump. With the information I have received from here, I was able to get the correct alternator brackets for the left side of the motor and will be going back to the short pump. The problem is, I think I'm going to have to change the pulleys I had on the other setup. Will all I have to replace is the short water pump pulley? Does the crank pulley that was lined up with the long water pump the same as the short wp? Also I have power steering. I hope this isn't too confusing.......

I believe you will need all of the pulleys for the short pump and the mounting brackets for power steering pump. Probably not what you wanted to hear but as far as I know nothing will interchange between long and short pumps. John

Different pulleys all around. And the p/s pump is different, too. The pump for the long pump is shorter.

I agree. Do yourself a favor and find an existing short water pump setup and get all the pulleys or buy all new pulleys from someone who knows what they are selling. I have been through this with two SB Chevys and there are sp many combinations that are close though not correct. Do it right. There has to be someone on this list that has a used setup they want to sell. Ask Randy. Is 'teezit' his user ID? Make sure you get a good water pump to begin with and the correct quality belts.

You will nedd to change the wp and crank pulleys. You will also have to change the ps bracket setup. The ps bracket is two pieces, a cast iron cradle or dogleg and a stamped piece. They only work with the old style resevior, they rub the new style. Alan Grove makes a simpler setup that accepts both and it costs less and easier to find.

Your crank pulley will be two pieces. There are single and double groove crank pulleys. The ps crank pulley is seperate but bolts together with your other pulleys. The wp pulley should be easy to find.

Alan Grove also sells pulleys if you need them.

Here are some pics of mine with stock setup.

OK, I been breathing sanding dust & filler fumes for a couple hours & washing it dwon with beer, so take this for what it's worth... Why not keep the setup you got if you have all the pullys & brakets? That or find a vehichle with things set up the way you want & get all the parts you need at once. My setup is from a van, alt right side, pwr steering pump way down low, but it lines up perfect & everything works. Now I'm on to bigger & better headaches.. IMHO
