hood latch problem
i installed a billet grill on my truck, but as you can see, there is no way for me to open the hood once it is closed,i thought about running a cable from the park brake lever seems how im not using one,or even a system kinda like the old chevelles where you open it from under the bumper,i could use a little insight if anyone has any

Looks like a good time for a in cab hood release. Not hard to fab.

There was a thread dealing with a remote latch using an 88+Chevy hood release handle & cable. I think it ended up in the FAQ section. Looked good under the dash. You could also do the same thing using a hood release assembly from say an early-mid 70's Caddy. That may be more pleasing to the eye as the handles would match better.

same thing happened to me when i put my billet grill in. until i realized what that extra bar was in the box. it bolts on to your existing hood latch, and what you have to do is reach under the bumper, push up on the bar,, and hold it while u open the hood. pain in the ass kind of, but atleast no one will know how to open your hood you might be able to fab one up yourself. ill go snap some pics of mine real quick for you.

the first pic is a top view. the bar on mine is bent becuase when i was putting it in, it didnt look like it would work, so i bent it so it would clear everything. im sure if you made one straight it would work fine. the last two show from the bottom, just one bolt holds it in to the existing hole on the hood latch. hope this helps!

Thanks! That's good to know since I too will be installing a billet grill shortly....
Did you get the 3.73 gears yet? Greg Quote:

Just an idea, but why can't you use the in-cab release method that I put in the FAQ section, and simply cut off the "J" hook that sticks up above the release (the second 'safety' catch)? I mean, use only the hole in the latch with the stem that is on the hood. That would make it 100% in-cab operated. Then just walk to teh front and lift the hood. I have NEVER heard of anyone's "properly adjusted" hood popping open on them while driving, so the safety "J" catch isn't really a big issue.
Like this: (Before & after) Then maybe just weld the slot for the removed "J" up and grind it flush & smooth!!!
