A/C Identification....
Tonight while the wife was getting my poor garage ready for a garage sale and i was supposed to be watchin the kids i opened the door on that 79 2wd K5 i aquired....dropped the glovebox down and noticed it had a/c....aftermarket or dealer add-on? Its not the typical knee banger....it actually tucks up under the metal frame of the dash and uses the factory vent locations except the top right of the dash is where the controls are....can take dig pics...however we go back to the have no clue how to post issue...but i would like to know if this is a dealer add on or aftermarket set up....

The aftermarket A/C I have seen puts the contols where the A/C vent usually would be above the stock heater controls. It also tucks up under the dash, like you said, and uses part of the glovebox by cutting part of the glovebox off and screwing a partition in the middle so your stuff won't fall out.
To me, aftermarket and dealer add-on are the same thing. A non A/C truck has a different opening in the cab (firewall), so dealers would be likely to add-on an aftermarket system. The factory setup is not a true bolt-in for a non-A/C truck. I would not be surprised if they made more money by installing aftermarket vs. factory parts. Slonaker |

Oh, BTW Doug, welcome back.
Not sure if you have been to my site lately, but I added a pretty cool Chalet article to it. It is a 77, and about halfway down the page you will find it. http://www.73-87.com/7387info/Road_Test_7380.htm

For an after market unit, that looks really good. I need to put an after market someday in my '70 Burb. (no air) My Dad was too cheap to order it with air. But later always wished he did. Never heard of this company that put yours in. I was thinking about Vintage Air. Heard they are good and there is a shop not too far from here that installs them.
