Holley Truck Avenger Carb
Does anyone have one of these?Do you like it?It sounds like a good thing,is it?I`m thinking on getting one next time I need a carb for one of my 4wds.How are they off-road?

I have one but have tken it off for other issues. never really got a chance to "use" it. Friend of mine said that you can get everything from Holley to make others like it pretty easy. Splash is the big thing.

This is second hand, but I've read on other fourms that it's great but needs a lot of tuning to get it to run right and then more tuning from time to time to keep it running.
I'm interested in the Edelbrock Thunder AVS 4x4 carb (1826) but I've only heard from one person that has used it and I would like other opinions too. |

Im runnin the 800cfm Thunder AVS. The carb is nice. Easy to drop on, and its an edelbrock, so it takes all of two screws to adjust it. Unfortunately right now the carb is outta tune and the truck has a stumble off idle. However, it does run much better than my 780cfm holley did when I get off road. The truck no longer has issues over bumps an hills. I love holley carbs, but I think they need to stay in the area they were designed for: The strip. Straight lines are where you want a holley. not off road. But all in all the thunder AVS seems to be a good choice. Just my .02$

I'm running the Elde Thunder series { 650- manual choke} Ran great right out of the box, havn't touched one adjustment srew ! It's been on for over six months. Try changing step up springs to pink for off idle stumble,worked for me on my performer carb I had preiveously? a1tgatorz@comcast.net

I have a 770 elec choke holley truck avenger. Required little tunning and has "held the tune" perfect. I'm not sure why everyone busts on the holley it makes the most power and is very easy to tune as long as you understand how a carb really works. I have had my truck in some serious tricky spots and no bog or hesitation from it at all. when I say tricky I mean getting 3 people to hang on to the side of the bed to keep it on the wheels !!!! Let me know if you need any help tunning we are close.

I tried a Holly 650, Truck Avenger 670 and 770 and an Edelbrock Performer 795, all of which sucked offroad. The 795 Edelbrock was the best of them all. The Truck Avenger was more worthless than the Holly 650 street carb In my opinion. I eventually just went back to the stock Rochester Quadrajet on my suburban and it's the best thing I ever put on it. I wheel the crap out of my suburban and all thsoe other carb just crapped out on inclines and angles but I've never had a problem with the old stock Rochester. Don't waste you money and changing lines to put some new crappy carb on your truck.

I`ve had Q-jets crap-out.Aren`t Edelbrocks Webers?Before the corporate name games,Edelbrock only made the thing the carb sits on and Holley made the carb.

I believe the Edlebrock came from Carter. Carter Carb was bought out by someone in the 80's. You can still get the Carter AFB and if ya notice it looks just like an Edlebrock.

Update.... Federal Mongal (Sp) bought Carter Carb. Edlebrock bought the rights from Carter or Federal to build their carb. Guy at work knew some about it and staightened me out.

Maybe it was only the first Eldys,but I also saw Weber on the body of one.Since they offer multiple carb types,it`s all possible.Thanks Mudder for your facts,I`m always learnin`something here.That`s what it`s all about,eh?
