Frame Question
Has anyone here ever tried or know of anyone who has put a 73-87 body onto a 67-72 frame? I'm sure cab and bed mounts will have to be moved, but looking to know if the frame length, wheelbase, or frame width is much different. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance! Oh and by the way it would be a short 67-72 frame the body is going on.

Interesting swap.
I don't know of anyone who has tried this conversion. But, here's a link for frame measurements of 73-87 frames. Maybe, it'll help you compare the dimensions with a 67-72 frame/body. With a 67-72 frame, you could swap out the front crossmember/suspension for a 73-87 setup and take advantage of the 67-72(?) trailing arms and you would have a very interesting setup. What's the purpose of your swap?

Yea that would an an interesting swap. They use to use the old truck frames to build NASCAR cars from before the big $$$$$$$$. But the newer frames are better suited for the pourpose of a truck.

Well the reason for the swap is that I like the suspension setup the the 67-72 frame has with the trailing arms. I have always liked that design and it works well. I don't plan on really using it to tow/haul much and I have the frame just setting here so I thought what the heck maybe it can be done fairly easy. Thanks for the info.

Just a thought: You should be concerned as what it would be registered as. In CA they use the Door (Number), Cab (VIN), and Glovebox (Codes) for the 67-72 models. If these don't match they would go to the Frame (VIN). In 1981 the VIN was 17 digits and relocated to the driver side dash.

Well, I'm in Indiana and since the truck body I am using is already licensed and driving I will just skip the part of letting the state know that I have changed frames. That is if I ever end up doing the swap.
