Question Electric Fans?

Hi Guys,
Would dual electric 12" fans work on a mild 350? Right now my 350 is in the 6 cylinder mounts and I dont have a fan shroud. The fan (non clutch) is about 8" away from the radiator. It really doesn't feel like it is pulling any air at idle right now. I towed my boat last weekend 170 miles roundtrip in 95 degree weather and the temp never got above 200. I would just like electric fans so I can get rid of the regular fan. Anyone running electric fans? How do they work? I found a dual 12" setup with shroud from jegs for about $200. Says it pulls 2500 cfm. Would this one work well? Any help is appreciated....Lumpy

$200 to spend on a cooling system that is workin fine seems like alot to me. I would jst get a 4X4 shroud..what, maybe $100?

Electric fans = LOUD + Don't cool very well + stop working at innoportune moments. Fine on a drag car that doesnt see much day to day use but money is better spent on a tow rig type vehicle on a higher capacity radiator. If you didnt go over 200 F and were towing a boat 175 miles in 95 degree weather why would you even think about it? Get a shroud and a 4 core and your'e cooling system will be beyond reproach. Mine is.

I want electric fans because the regular fan looks like ****, is too far away from the radiator to do any good even with a shroud, and it is sucking some ponies. Also if I were to let it idle for say 5 minutes without moving the engine would be toast. There were no stoplights when I was towing. Only a few stop signs.

Then get a clutch fan and a 4X4 shroud. The 4X4 would sit in the same location yours is in if I am not mistaken.

Yeah. The factory put a few hundred million belt driven fans on trucks and cars because they all overheated after 5 minutes at a stop light. All you need is a shroud and a decent radiator and you will NEVER overheat! .

The factory also didn't put a v-8 in 6 cylinder mounts along with a big camshaft. How deep is the 4x4 shroud? I need at least 10" depth

I have a 16" puller i paid $80 for from auto-zone, Its quiet and cools the motor nicely even with the dinky 2 core i have. Its under lifetime warrenty, if it fails due to electric motor failer and you have motor damage, They buy you a new motor...

I'm running a small block with big block mounts which put the motor back as far as it can go and a big block shroud and 4 core radiator. It has never once even come close to overheating with this motor or the last one that rested between the frame rails which was over 450 HP . In fact neither motor had gotten over 180 degrees . You just need a shroud. none of your air is going through the radiator. It is taking the path of least resistance which happens to be around the radiator because the shroud is not compelling it to go THROUGH the radiator.

check out www.ramchargers.com i got the dual fans from them for my drag truck, I HAVEN'T USED THEM YET, but they fit great and were only $80. i am told they are a copy of spal fans with the same characteristics only much much cheaper. Dev.

No, but i think they are about $20 or so, Its alot more quiet then a junkyard fan... It does come with all the wiring though, My truck with 2 core idling at 95* out and a 185 thermostat stays at 185-190 all day..

they are under ramchargers custom parts, and i didn't get the harness, the guy told me it was for a turbo buick, that's what they specialize in, he said i didn't need it.

I had a major heating problem with my Studebaker with a 350 with 10.0:1 compression, 91 octane fuel and A/C running........finally put a Scott's electric fan on it and haven't had a problem since..........they are at the Pomona swap meet every time.

Well I have been running duel 12" fans with a shroud for over 2 years. I use them for my Big Block Blazer. I also tow a 4000lb. boat and trailer. No problems here.... It is the same system that I sell and several board members have it also. My system comes with everything you need, from the fans, shroud, marine heat shrink terminals, manual over-ride switch, mounting screws, and wire. They run real quiet also. Here is a link:

Newer Ford Taurus's have a nice dual fan set-up that fits just right on my 68, currently have maual control override with Honda thermostat control, pretty quiet.
