'71 on '79 frame - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anybody here ever successfully put one of our trucks on a newer frame? I lucked into a '79 1-ton with 454/th400/14-bolt (posi, non-dually). Mines a 1/2-ton, and they're both 2wd longbeds.

I'm tossing around ideas on what to do with my new find...and this option seems attractive to me. Everything on this '79 is pristine - I think I may put the body on my 4x4 '76.

Gotta love finds like this locally for $500...

A running pristine 454 for $500...now that is a find!

To do a 67 - 72 onto a 73 - 87 frame, you'll need to shorten the wheelbase, and then a custom body lift. Otherwise, nothing will fit.
Mudder has done this on a 4X4 and did an awsome job. However, in all reality, a 2 weeldrive isn't very doable.

You'll run into problems with the frame rails under the older cab. They come up much quicker than the older frames.
