proper way to hook up a detent cable onto a 600 cfm carter afb manual choke

ok on my carb the detent cable is hooked up to the outer part of the arm it hooks too and i think that is causing to not open up all the way and isnt allowing the full pressure of the trans to kick in during wide open throttle.so help me out what is the proper way to hook up a detent cable(gm style)on a th350 to a carter afb.

Shouldent need a special bracket unless you have the older style setup that attached the bracket directy to the q-jet. If thats the case get a newer style that mounts to the manifold only. Which dentet cable to you have the platic clip type (like 700r4's) or the one with the long metal end? If its the plastic clip type you could get one of the cheezy chrome deals in the "performance" isle at any parts store.

Just about every one of those detent cables is adjustable. Have you set your cable to kick in when it needs to? Maybe you need to extend your mounting point back from the carb just a little and then adjust the detent to pick up on a step into the carb.

i was looking at my new summit catalog and i saw a part listed in there that is for 78 and earlier small block chevy's i cant recall the specific part name but its basically a bracket for edelbrock carbs that allows the cable to be hooked up properly.so i think your correct and thats what i need to go with.

mine has the long metal end that attaches directly to the arm on the carb-the truck used to have a qjet but i put an edelbrock on it.so it attaches to i believe the same arm the throttle linkage does just at a lower point on the arm and more inward of the throttle linkage.my truck has a TH350 not a 700R4.so i think 1faastc10 is correct i need the bracket i mentioned seeing about in summit so it will allow the cable to hookup correctly and allow the trans to run at full pressure.it still shifts good for the most part but the truck i had it in before had a qjet with the detent hooked up in its correct location and that tranny would shift good and firm.

the cable is actually pulled as far out as it will go and hooked up on the carb the only way we could get it to work.its not pretty and it works for the most part but i want it done right so it doesnt kill my trans.
