Help please....

When I put my truck in drive or reverse it makes a loud "clinking" noise. The u-joints are new and the trans is new so is it comming from the rear? I have tried to find where it is coming from but is so hard to locate. It does not make any noise going down the road at all. I changed the gear oil in the rear and it didn't help. It has made the "clinking" for awhile it's just starting to make me nuts. Any ideals what to look for so I can get it fixxed...By the way it's a 2 wheel drive 350th / 2 piece drive shaft and a 3:07 limited slip rear.

Thanks....

Put the truck up on good jack stands under the rearend. Then with someone inside and you under the truck have them shift it in reverse then forward and listen for your clicking. Try to locate its location. Then come back here with what you have found out. Someone then can help you with a diagnois.
Good luck.

easy check, put the rear on jack stands, put the tranny in neutral, crawl under it, grab the driveshaft and turn it each direction, if it is what i think it is, you have excessive backlash in your ring and pinion caused from age and wear in the pinion bearing and the gear surfaces themselves....if it is a U-joint or slip yoke, you will be able to see them move.......possibly it could be the carrier bearing rubber worn out and flexing up and down when under a load too........but most likely it's backlash.
