I've seen that before, my brother had an old 56 chevy 4 door hard top car and the wipers would not come up but they would go back down by themselves so he done the "string thing". Pull the string to get them up then the motor would take them back down.

Seems like the ducting would have failed long before the vents did??? Nice fix though...
