Any interest in a sliding camper bumper?

I have a sliding camper bumper that was installed on my new 71 that I am removing and replacing with a sport bumper. Anyone interested in it?

$50.00 takes it. Heavy son of a gun too.. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I think that sakohntr is going to buy it. A sliding camper bumper is a heavy duty bumper that has a sliding mechanism mounted to it. When you loosen the bolts it will side back to alow for up to a 12 camper. They were produced to protect the back of the campers. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Here is a pic

This was also a 71 model. It has an inner square tube and an outer square tube with a pull pin. You pull two pins located at the end & slide it in/out to match up with the overhang of the camper tail. I'd guess it's over 100lbs total.

I have had them in here with square tubing and channels. I haven't seen the ones done from round tubing though. I would pull the one off of my 71, but I drive it every day and I am temperaraly out of stock on the chrome rear bumpers..lol That will change soon though..... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I have that set-up under the bed of my LongHorn! What is the orginality of these? Dealership add-on? GM? I was thinking of tossing mine as I don't like it but, I dunno...Thoughts anyone?

I don't know that for sure. I do know that they were not an option, however I am unsure if the dealerships offered them or not. The are a must if you want to protect a camper that is longer than your bed though. I would leave mine on if I were going to leave a step bumper on the truck. It's a pretty nice looking bumper for a step.
sakohntr passed on the bumper, but Castiron has indicated that he would be interested in it. So Castiron your up... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I'll say one thing , mine was a ***** to get out of the box tubing; it was sort of rusted in a way where it wouldn't slide well! That was my dislike!

Hey WES, I'm interested in the bumper. Is your setup just like the one pic posted by Americanrider. Are all of the brackets bolt ons or are any welded? Would I need to make any mods to fit on a 72' 3/4 4x4? Shipping to 55060? Let me know when you get a chance.

Thanks, Scott

These were offered from the dealer, there's pics of it in my 69 GMC owner's manual under the dealer add on section.

Separating the slide tubes

Here is a trick, remove the whole thing & lube the inner tube slides with Liquid Wrech for two days in a row. Then place a Hi-lift jack between the mounts and the bumper, [bumper face down and mounts up in the air] jack it up about 2 notches on each sides so as not to bind it, keep switching side until it come free. They will slide out easy..... ask me how I know

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=138508

WES, I'm not trying to jack your thread, just spread a little info to help out.
72 Cheyenne K20:
In the second pic of the thread above you will see there is only 3 large bolts mounting into the frame. One on the front leg type mount and two on the rear box mount. I can't say for sure if WES's bumper is the same but this is what mine was mounted like. (it's now scraped)

In Longhorn Man`s dealer catalogue it shows the "stamped" bumper(72-style)was available in chrome.I`ve been wanting to find a perfect one to chrome.The`71 CustomCamper I had had a slde-out bumper. It didn`t use a factory bumper. It had c-channel welded to the frame and 2 heavy bars with holes every 2".The bumper had a 1 foot wide top.Alot of these bumpers were outfitter installed along with the camper.

My truck is a rear leaf spring truck, so to answer your question Scott, yes it will fit. It is a bolt on unit that has the channel slides. It also does not interfear with the stock spair tire. The slides are bolted to the bumper and if a guy wanted to drill a couple of new holes in the frame mounting plate, could get the bumper to ride closer to the truck. It looks like someone took a cutting torch to the end of the inner channel, but it doesn't interfear with the function and could be ground down to make it more sanitary. Scott let me know if you want the bumper. Here are some mounting pictures and another one of the truck..lol It has been shined up.. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
