Auto tilt to stick shift conversion?

I've looked, can't find! I picked up a 71 auto tilt that I want to put in my stick shift truck. Any help out there?

What kind of help you looking for. Maybe I am overlooking something!?!?!

If you are wanting a tilt & a stick shift @ the same time, you have to go with a floor shifter.

What do you have? 3 speed standard or 4 speed? If you have a 4 speed, then you just install the column and remove the shifter handle. (That is cheapest) If you want to get rid of the boss for the shifter handle, then you will have to find a used standard shift collar. They have been discontinued from GM. If you have a 3 speed, then you have to go to a floor shifter, because there isn't a 3 speed standard tilt aplication custom or otherwise. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Ok, Let me clairify. Bought a 71 Auto tilt, plan to use it in a '67 Floor shifting 4sp truck. Need info on removing the auto shifter collar without destroying anything. If there are no floor shift tilt collars around then I'll grind it smooth, fill the hole & re-install. Just don't want to grind it while it's still on the column and risk the shavings getting inside the mechanics of the tilt. Also how can I remove the auto shift lever at the bottom end of the column? I have a cover on my 4spd man column that should patch the hole. I took the spring clip off the bottom end and tried to pry out the bearing retainer. It doesn't want to come out and thought I'd better ask before I break something important. And on a side note... It has a single grey wire sticking out the end not attached to the horseshoe plug. What is the grey wire for I looked at the wire diagrams and can't find it.

Single wire is for gear indicator light.....for night-time driving. Just hook it on the fuse box. I can't remember which terminal it is, but it has something to do with instruments, cluster, gauges, or something. If you use a test light, just touch each one and see which will turn off/dim with the headlight knob & clip it to that one!!

Oh, if you remove the two screws that hold the plastic lens on (indicator), there should be a small lightbulb under there. Check it if you don't get the grey wire to work (bulb will likely be blown!)

EDIT: I see in the picture that the indicator housing is already missing and I can see the lightbulb sticking up a little. It is a push-in-&-twist to remove type.

The gray wire is for the little indicator light bulb in the column. You will also need to find a good intermediate steering shaft, because your old column is single piece. As for taking the tilt apart to remove and smooth the colar, I am not an expert on building tilts. I do know however that you need special toos to take it apart. WES
