any where i should look for a short , my dome light does not work it has a new light bulb, also what color wires run to it, also which fuse does it run off

You should use a test light to see if you have power (+) to the dome light, because it has constant power. The light turns on by providing a ground connection when you open the door. If you have power to the light then the problem is it is not getting a ground from the door jamb switch. The threads on the door jamb switch might be dirty, or like on my blazer, the wire could be disconnected from the switch.

If there isn't any power to the light, the problem is in the fuse or the wire to the light has a break.

dont mean to steal the thread but my dome light will not work either i put a new bulb in as soon as i turn light switch on it pops but the map light under the dash works with no problems ???????????????? since i read where the wires run i will check them thanks as far as the fuse i would assume it would be the courtesy light on the fuse panel

The light under the dash is on a different circuit.

There is a fuse for the dome light, it also runs the stereo, cig lighter etc.

I cannot remember exactly where it is (got a nasty headache) but I can post a pic tommorow...

most black wires under the dash are ground. However, don't get too happy putting all black wires straight to ground though, some are designed to go through switched and stuff.

The courtesy lights are only orange and white though, I'm feeling better now, so I'll go grab a picture or two for ya right now

Alright, headache is gone, and pics are in

The jist of it is this though - Orange wires should be hot at all times, provided through the fuse that I am pointing at in the pic. My truck delivers power to the interior through a connector that is put into the front of the fuse box. I took a pic of that as well. It then goes into some nasty asbestos tape, where it has three white wires connected together, and two orange wires. The white and orange wires that come out the "bottom" of the union go to the kick panel, then back to the cab corner. There is a connector there that goes up to the dome light / cab light (if so equipped) the white wires that come out the "top" with the orange wire that goes to the fuse box both go to the door switches. I cut mine off here, cause I intend to replace the nasty union with something a bit cleaner.

I have a wiring diagram as well, but I see that one was already posted, so three pics it is!

You should be able to see the wire running up behind the speaker once you pull it out. The cab corner speaker wire and the dome light wire run together up until they hit the speaker, then there is the connector that you see in my last picture, and from there it goes up into the dome light.

If you can find that connector, and check for 12 volts on the orange wire, it'll tell you if your wiring is pooched before or after the that connector, and make your life a whole lot simpler to identify the problem

am i right, the wire on the fuse box raps around and plugs into the front, it is orange w/ white stripe, how do i pull the connector out of the fuse box, and since the one under the dash works, the white is hooked up right, aint it

Not sure about the bulb number, I just grabbed one from the shelf that fit and shoved it in there. And I do believe it is suppost to have a 20 amp fuse, but I only had 25s lying around. I will stick the proper amperage fuses in later.

and yes, since you have your underdash light working, your white wiring is likely good. To check it, just stick a volt meter that is able to check continuity on between the connector by the speaker, when you open your door, you should have continuity between it and ground. I'd assume your problem lies in the fuse there, its a pretty simple system otherwise. To pull the connector out, just push the little tab in, and pull. Check to make sure that the hole it came out of has 12 volts at all times.

i stuck a test light on the connector at the fuse box, and it lit up, i am thinking about cutting the wiring,somewhere around the door sill plate and seeing if i have electricity there, then put a connector on it and hook it up again
