Shock brackets for 4" lower coils

I understand that I will need to do something different to mount my rear shocks if I install 4" lowering coils.
Are there any tricks to doing this? Are my options pretty limited?

Thanks

Companies like Early Classic Enterprises make shock relocator kits that allow you to reposition the shocks. When you drop the rear end a substantial amount it changes the position of the shock so that it's no longer vertical. I don't know if anyone has tried welding they're own hangers for the shocks, but someone on here probably knows of an alternative method. If I remember correctly the kit for the rear is around $75. I would check with some other companies listed in the vendor section to see if you could get them cheaper. Hope this helps.

Someone (maybe TXfirefighter?) swapped the trailing arm brackets from one side to the other and redrilled the top shock bracket to correct the angle.

I am running 4" drop springs with 2" blocks and haven't replaced the brackets. It rides fine, but the shocks are laid over at about 45 degrees...

Good luck, Rg

Seems like I've read of that somewhere before. I don't mind supporting board vendors but I just don't want to spend $80 needlessly. I'm also pretty sure I've seen pictures of rear set-ups with the shocks really laid down.

If someone can confirm the modification mentioned here, please chime in.
Thanks

on air bagged trucks you might see the shocks at an extreme angle, but when they raise the truck, that angle gets corrected. you shouldn't have more than a 15 degree angle and the kit from early classic or wherever you buy it will extend the top or bottom of the shock towards the front to correct the extreme angle you get with lowering. also you might want drop shocks to get the most out of your shocks. if you lower too much you'll also need an adjustable track arm (panhard bar).

I'm down to the frame on my donor 71 and it looks like the stock angle is over 15 degrees. Could be wrong. I assumed that drop shocks would be required with a 4" coil drop. I've got some more studying to do.

aitch, I do have drop shocks but no relocation kit or adj. track bar.

Never had a problem with it, but I don't drive it every day either. Not saying it is smart or the best setup, just saying that you can get away with it with 4" drop springs.

That's good to know. I'd like the geometry to be correct, but seems like 4" is not too radical.
