Truely the longest lasting on the Road? Don't see 67-72 Ferds?

On another forum I participate at we got to talking about 67-72 GM trucks as acouple of us guys are still using them. Anyhow, someone mentioned all the Fords from those years are long gone but the GM's are still mostly intact and running well. I got to thinking, I have seen a 67-72 Ferd in a long while on the highway...........My neighbors have a '75 F-100 or 150(Can't remember which) and although they bought it new, and it was ALWAYS in a garage in bad weather, it has rusted out to a state as bad as our worst GM which was our Farm truck. I can't think of any others around that are older than say '79.

I think GM's comercials are very true indeed

I'll probably end up with my neighbors Ferd as it has alot of personal meaning to both me and my brother, if their is anything left as it is currently their farm truck after they finally invested in new pickups the last few years putting the old Ferd's bed out in the corn crib instead of the cushy garage.........

The sad part is, the 67 - 72 Ford trucks were the best lookin trucks they ever built IMO.
If you go down south, there are PLENTY on the road.

I see a few '67-'72 Ford pick-ups still cruising here in Tucson. Not as many as Chevys & GMCs of that era. But then I'm not looking for ugly trucks.

Not too many 67-72 Fords around here in upstate SC, but there are TONS of 67-72 chevrolets, BUT there are A LOT, and I mean A LOT, of 73-79 Ford trucks on the road here still, especially broncos. A lot of them are the 1 ton dumptrucks, or flatbeds that are still in use everyday. I don't see too many mid and late 70's chevys 'round here anymore.

I am not certain what they look like, but the old fords I see around here are rusted out. I know the only other 67-72 chevys I see are in the process of restoration, or being used as work trucks, only one thats parked in town.

my wife was all excited last night because she was watching sex and the city and some boyfriend on the show had an old green stepside. She thought it was just like mine, called me in. It was a 69 ford - a nice two tone one, but still a ford.

I personally notice the 4wds more often, and can honestly say I've only seen one 3/4 ton ford from that era in my neck of the woods. I've seen only a couple of the 2wds. See more 60-66 GMs then the 67-72 fords. tons of 67-72 gms. Back to the 3/4 ton 4wd ford, looks in good shape has a pto winch and divorced transfercase. There was a 1 ton dually 4wd ford(67-72) running around about a year ago but I have not seen it lately.

Around here I hardly ever see 67-72 Chevies or Fords on the road, let alone parked in farmer's fields. Gotta love that road salt.

Truth be told, what amazes me the most is the amount of 78-79 Ford pickups still on the road around here. I know of 4 guys that own F-250 4x4's (all wearing plows), and a couple of F-150's and f.s. Bronco's.

I still see some 67-72 Fords around, but I'd also say not as many as Chevys. I was just thinking in my neighborhood there are 5 67-72 Chevy/GMC's, not a single Ford of the same era. Also I agree you see a lot more late 70's Fords. My buddies dad has a 79F 250 4x4 and has had if for many years. His dad about freaked out when we told him we drove it through a river. (it was about knee deep.)

In Winters, Yolo co. Ca. their are alot of old clean fords still on the road. But I must say their are even more 67-72 chevy SWB 4x4 then any other year it seams like.

Just incase you do not know that an early ford looks like here is my newest addition to the Shop. It is a 71 Bronco that only has 59K orignal miles on it. I keep it next to my 71 chevy but notice the wall between them. Can't trust Bronco's they will try and breed with anything

here's what i'd say the ratio is around here.
67-72 chevy to ford; 15 chevy's to 1 ford.
73-87 chevy vs. 73-79ish ford ratio; 5 chevys to every 1 ford.
finally 88-98 chevy vs. 80-95ish ford 15 chevys to every one ford.
i guess there's just not to many ford guys around here, or those fords aren't lasting like they should. there are alot of 94+ dodges around here though.

Down here in Alabama (Birmingham & Montgomery), I see probably 4 or so 67-72 era Fords a day. But I see about 8 Chevy 67-72's a day.

They are freakin' everywhere!

Here in the Cincy area I really don't see alot of either. Probably about the same amount of both. I'm not a Ford fan by any means but when an older vehicle drives by, be it a Ford, Dodge or Chevy, I pretty much check it out.

Here in north MS, there are just as many old fords on the road as chevys.
I am a chevy guy, but in reality there are just as many fords and I am seeing more and more ford trucks at shows.

If my grandfather's truck had been a ford, I still would be restoring it regardless.

Although I prefer the 67-72 Chevys, and have 4 of them in running condition, I also have a '71 Ford, so I notice them too. Around here in SE AL I see lots of 67-72 Chevys. I see a whole lot less 67-72 Fords. I can also easily find parts for all my Chevys but I have a hard time getting stuff for my '71 Ford.

The '71 Ford I have pictured was given to me by my grandfather, and he got when I was about 4 years old, so I have basically grew up around it. It has been known as "Spot" for many years for obvious reasons. As bad as I hate to admit it, it has way more miles (312,000 on the original 240 L6) than any of my Chevys, but the doors shut great and the windows roll up like a new one. The floors and rockers are rock solid. On the negative, it drives much worse than any of the Chevys and stops even worse. The crappy twin I beam set up, with manual drums makes it a beast at high speeds. I use to make junkyard runs and its actually pretty economical for what it is. It rattles like its coming apart in the morning, but hums like a sewing machine when it gets warm. It actually good old truck, even though it butt ugly!

Around here their are a lot of 67-72's, not all running, people seem to keep them parked out back, even if not running. But I could be that is what I am looking for too. We bought a different van 3 years ago and I did not notice how many like that were on the road until we got one. BTW I just found a 67 C20 Custom Camper for sale, more of a parts truck, has a cool steering wheel cap with clear insert I've never seen before.
