Houndstooth Vs. Scroll Covers on 71 Buckets
Ive got to order up some new covers today so I can play this next weekend on my seats. Looks like the two options are houndstooth and scroll. What have you guys used? Have any pics to share?
thanks!

Here's a pic of the black & white houndstooth and a link w/ step-by-step pictures of recovering the seat. I sprung for the new foams which really jacked up the co$t but made a huge difference in the end.

That looks sharp. Mothertruckers says he can get me a black outer, and black/green houndstooth inner. It would match my green interior.... Wonder if I can find a pic.

My wife and I REALLY like the houndstooth, but since we use both our trucks, we were concerned with staining the cloth on the houndstooth. We decided that the scroll was the way to go for us.

But I would think that a darker cloth would hide it better than the white.

When I got the covers I discovered that the material is actually very resilient… not really like cloth, more of a high nylon content weave. I’m thinking now that it will take a lot of abuse.

Nice job. It takes a lot of extra work to get the original "tuck" back in the covers. Beware of the shop that just puts on extra padding and wraps the covers around it.
I always suggest the driver's seat get new foam, as a minimum. That is the only way I sell buckets (with the foam & covers). Extra padding is just not the same. It's getting difficult to get "custom" non-stock Houndstooth color combinations and non-stock covers like blazer/suburban. It's special order and done after the production OEM covers...that's why it took so long...so order early. |

What is the correct color of houndstooth for a factory red/white 72 truck or Suburban?

The color of my truck when finished will be viper red. I would like to go
with black with red houndstooth. Do they make a color combo with a red that come close to matching the viper red? Thanks |

Who knows what will match Viper Red, but you can get custom covers made using the original GM colors (those that are available). So, red or black vinyl and red or black houndstooth is a consideration.
A red & white truck (Super or Sierra Grande only) could have had several different colors of interiorl. White/black/or red come to mind. I don't think you could get an original Sub with houndstooth, but it can now be custom ordered...and it takes time & $$$ to get it. |

I`m the minority once again.I like the vinyl scroll-type.It gives you more of your color and matches the door panels. Also, more 60s looking to me.And they`re western as in Cheyenne. As far as correct goes,no one`s mentioned,if that`s a concern,scroll/Cheyenne and houndstooth/CheyenneSuper.I even took the woodgrain out of the door panels in my GMC to get more blue. The Highlander is going to get the plaid. The CheyenneSuper,I have saddle hounstooth buckets.
