What brand of paint on manifold?

What brand of paint works well on intake/exhaust manifolds? Something readily available at most auto parts stores is desirable...

On intakes I use Duplicolor Chevy Orange (#200), on exhausts I use 1500* BBQ paint but it never stays on long.

Not to hijack or anything but would you need to use a high temp paint on an intake? What kind of prep work needs to be done before painting?

I just cleaned the intake with brake cleaner and a brush, then shot a light coat of color on it every 15 minutes for 2 hours. The paint I use is 500* engine color made for blocks and such. If you don't use high heat paint it will come off.

The first pic shows the C20 motor before installation with it's powdercoated manifold and self painted block and valve covers and the second is the El Camino motor with it's self painted intake. They are virtually identical in appearance. I doubt I'll powdercoat another one. The paint holds up fine.

I soaked mine with the foamy engine cleaner, scrubbed with wire brush, then scoured with brush and warm soapy water. Looks like all the oily gunk is gone, so hope it's ok to paint...

I would hose it off with some brake clean too before shooting it.

Will do...thanks Longhorn Man.

I've got the day off thanks to Hurricane Dennis, so I'll be headed to the store for paint this morning.

Make sure you cure it (heat it up) according to the can. VHT is specific about how to do it. I'm sure other brands are as well.

Duplicolor requires no curing other than starting the motor and letting it run a few minutes. I've never used VHT.

agree with all of the other members. Here is the link to Summit if you can't find what you want, http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp , they have a huge selection at reasonable prices.
