About to Yank the 6 and have some questions..?

I am replacing a 250 with 3 on the three with a 350 out of a 95 Chevy. The motor has been completely rebuilt and has a Performer intake a Holley 600 Carb. Here goes goes my questions.

1) i want to keep the three speed on the column, do I need to pull it out at the same time as the motor to make it easier?

2) Will I need motor mounts for the 350?

3) Will my starter and alternator off the L6 work?

4) Do I need to run new wires to accomidate the newer engine?

5) Will the 350 button directly up with the Three Speed

..... any tips or feedback?

Good questions. I have the 6 with 3 on tree and would like to do same as I have 350 waiting to go in. Any input or advice from the board would be greatly appreciated.

It amazingly simple to go to V8, clutch, starter, alt should all work, the mounts (w/rubber) bolt straight to the 8 w/o the little bracket the six uses. You will need a V8 ball stud for the cluch linkage. Distributer will be close to the firewall in the six position but will work OK. TIP-loosen the engine stands(3 bolts,on frame/crossmember)) before trying to reinstall engine, makes it easier to line up the bolts. Brian

your alternator will work as long as you use the externally regulated one that is on your I6. If you place your 350 in the I6 position you can use the same tower and mounts, but if you change it to the factory V8 location, you need V8 towers. The biggest headache I found was the Z link for the clutch, but after receiving a great tip from GMC Paul on how to make a pivot ball work, it all went together. Also if you place it in the V8 location, you will need to find a longer front driveshaft such as a front driveshaft from a factory V8 truck. The throttle cable for the inline 6 will not work on the 350 either,so you'll need to do some hunting for the right length cable. I have my 350 in the I6 spot and used a cable from a 71 GMC 3/4 ton and it worked perfect

The 6 has been spoken for or you would have been welcome to it.

The only other thing I can add would be radiator concerns. When I did this to a truck, the single row radiator with the I-6 "guard" worked OK most of the time. The only times I had problems with it not cooling well enough, were in the summer - on the hotest of the hot days, or if i was running hard on the interstate, and came to a screeching halt due to traffic jams... After a couple times of watching the needle ride higher than i was comfortable with, i got a hold of a 3-row radiator, and never worried again.
