I agree, and if that distributor has lotza miles on it check the wires from the pickup coil under the module that plug into the module to see if they have broken from many miles of advancing.

Also could be the pickup coil under the module--the small wires on these break off pretty regularly.

Unfortunatly the pickup coil is not highly visable with out removal and dissassembly of the distributor, but if you remove the cap and rotor then unplug the module, one of the two plugs wires will "disappear" under the plate that the module mounts to, these lead to the pickup coil, if they have broken off under there you should be able to tell by gently tugging on the wires independently. If they have broken off it would require removal and dissassembling the distributor to replace the unit.

Go ahead and stick a module in it because it's easy--if that don't fix it, you need to pull the distributor out--remove all the innards down to the small coil around the shaft--check the wires fastened to it by pulling on them easy!! DON"T pull them out! Sometimes all that is holding them in place is the insulation. If the wires are broken replace it. Use the silicone that comes with the module. Some guys can do all this without pulling the dist. out--my belly's too big!

If you listen to your tunes with the ignition switch on the run position, then a burned up coil is another posability. Also if you run excesive gap on your plugs the coil can burn up too.
