Here it is with a new chrome rear bumper!!

Well I finaly got the opertunity to install the new rear bumper. I replaced the intermediate taillight harness while I was at it. The original had been spliced into in 3 different places along its length. New 2 1/2 inch duel exhaust and maybe some corvette manifolds next... It will also be recieving a new tow hitch.... Question - I just tried to put a new rear tri-plus bumper on my 68. I also got the brackets and license plate bracket. I cannot get the licence plate bracket to fit no matter what I do. If you put in the top bolts, the side won't reach and line up, and if you put in the side bolts, it misses going flush with the top bolt area by about 1/4 inch. If you start all the bolts and start to pull them tight, it starts to warp the bumper. The license bracket seems also to be too narrow to go over the bumper right. Is the bracket junk, or bad bumper. or did yours just fit right up with no tweaking, What could be wrong ? I heard the GM license brackets were better than tri-plus on that, is that true ? what did you use ? Thanks.

Wow guys, thanks for the compliments. Lets see if I can address some of the questions...
First off I am trying to clear out some space in preperation for our truck show... My trucks seem to always take up our parking area... lol

truck69, thank you for the compliment. I am sorry but I only have an on-line catalog. I also have a toll free phone number though....

FRENCHBLUE72, Thank you also.. Yes the truck recieved all new lenses. Nice lenses will improve the looks of just about anything.

Green Machine, Without seeing the parts, it would be too hard to judge the problem. The aftermarket parts do have some inconsistancies, but the GM parts do also. I would try a new LP bracket from GM or Triplus and see if that fixes the problem. I have mounted quite a few bumpers and use Triplus LP brackets. Some do fit tighter than others, but I have always seemed to make them work, without altering anything. If you do decide to alter anything though, do it to the bracket. You don't want to start a chrome problem.

jostrans68, You can have the bumper, but need to come down to get it soon. Like I said above, I need room.

Yukon Jack, Thank you...

sakohntr, your welcome.. I am glad that you will get good use from them.

Sillyoldman, I try not to throw anything away. I usualy either try to sell it, or if it is a large part and doesn't sell I donate it to someone's truck that could use it. This bumper and jostrans68 are a prime example. The tires and wheels are up for sale. The caps were purchased by sakohntr.

LUV2XCLR8, Thank you...

70c10, Thank you... I didn't paint it, Just a good cut, buff, and wax.. That shine was just hiding under the oxidized paint...lol

shifty, Thank you, I think that it looks much better also... I knew I could bring out that look without too much of an investment. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
