I was looking at the 89 crew cab I just bought and got to thinking about the shoulder seatbelts.

First off, I believe I have heard there are dyes and some kind of spray you can use to change the color of belt and the plastic housing. Anyone have experience with it? Just wondering if it would work on these to make them black.

Secondly, anyone ever use this body style shoulder seatbelts in a 67-72? The housing is pretty narrow and I'm thinking it just might fit.

I don't have a good pic of the rear seat's seatbelt.

Use the RIT dye, it works. I died the ones out of the old Longhorn black. (they were blue)
Follow the directions, and clean the washer as soon as you are done, otherwise, you'll be sleeping on the couch untill you get her a new one.

That's great to hear! Both my girls will be in school this year and I usually drive them to school. With only two lap belts in my 69 I was going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade to shoulder belts and move one of the existing lap belts to the center. Hopefully these from the 89 will fit - I will do some measuring soon. I'm finding all kinds of unexpect parts that I am going to be able to use on my 69 from the 89. (hydraulic clutch, maybe hydro boost brake setup, underhood light, recovery tank) Pretty awesome.

Did you use the color remover before the dye, or just dye right over the old color?

I am trying to change some belts from blue to black.

You couldn't pay me enough to convert to a hydraulic clutch. They are a pain in the rearend. I finally wised up and got a lifetime guarantee from the parts store. Still a hassle to change them out.

The old clutch linkage in my K20s might not be fancy, but they don't leak out all over the place.

I'd like to find one of those underhood lights myself.

I have a set of those seat belts I was planning on installing in one of my trucks. I think they will work with minimal rework. At least that was my plan. Let me know how it goes.

2macs...I just tossed them in the washer with the black coloring. Mine were blue too.

I got a set of those and the pax side dropped right in. The gas tank was in the way for the drivers side. Somebody posted pics of a bracket they used to move the belt forward enough to clear the tank. Ive been too lazy to do mine. I only really needed a shoulder belt for my sons booster seat anyway. Cant remember the size bolt for the shoulder bracket but it was fine thread.
Just remembered something else. The annoying slapping of the belt against the cab unless the vent window is open. But if you have air....
