Upper Ball joints ???
For 2wd -- Can a Moog K6136 (73-87) upper ball joint replace a K6124 (71-72) on a 71-87 spindle? If so how does the upper A arm need modified?

All of the upper arms that I have seen so far have the same bolt pattern for the ball joint

The 71-72 upper ball joint is unique to the 71-72 spindles and will not fit other years. If you go with the later upper ball joint it will not fit the 71-72
spindles. Jim |

ok
Then I can infer from both responses that if I use 73-87 spindles use balljoints made for the model year spindle I am trying to use.......
Just another note... not sure if I created a problem but I used my OEM tie rods ends with my 72 spindles and did not appear to have a problem. Anyone else try this? One last thing---I have some 5x5 2500 pound spindles -- the 72 tie rod end I have -- new spares--are too big to even start to go thru the steering arm hole. Would anyone know what tie rod end fits this heavy duty 1/2 ton spindle -- takes A5 inner bearing? The pic below is all the farther the 72 tie rod will go thru. The same tie rod end shown goes thru my 87 1500 lb spindle arm properly. thanks --for your responses. |

On the 1/2 ton trucks, the outer tierod end , as well as the upper ball joint differs from 71-72, to the 73-87 trucks.Im not sure if that answers the ?, but just a note......use all the parts off the same truck, or this chit will make you NUTS! Ask me how I know this.....& I will tell you that I had to learn the hard way Best of luck L
