Let me rephrase it

For all the people that have a stock location fuel tank and after market fuel guage what did you have to do to make the new guage work. The new sending unit will not fit in the stock tank. Thanks for your time, Steve

the first thing you should do is with your multimeter check the ohms value of the 2 sending units if they're the same then just use the original

That's what I did. I bought the Autometer Fuel gauge and used the stock sender. I guess it works fine...haven't ran out of gas yet.
