I have heard rumors and quiet whispers of such an animal as a 3sp manual transmission with a manual overdrive. The unit had sme type of manual lever under the dash to engage the overdrive.

Does anyone know if this was available with our year trucks? I looked in my manual and cant find any info on it. Any information you guys may have would be super helpful!

I have a 3onthetree and would kinda like to keep it, but I do alot of highway driving were an overdrive would save me on some gas money...

I had one in a 67 truck. Good luck finding one though. I saw one on eBay once about a year ago. Those are the only two I've ever seen.

I was able to get 21 MPG on the highway with an inline 6 engine.

I looked for one too...........Last one I seen was the one Burnsman had acouple of years ago for sale. Didn't jump on it.

Then I decided on going the NV4500 route until the salvage yards quoted me a price on a used one............Couldn't see paying more for a tranny than I did for the truck

I did figure out an OD for alot less...........Currently working to get a patent on it so I can't give out too many details. Got it in "Testing" behind the Cummins and after abusing it on the farm we still haven't been able to break it

Send me a PM if you want to know more, you could keep you 3spd with this setup too

I HAVE ONE IN A 1969 LONGHORN, HAVE NOT HAD TIME TO WORK ON THIS TK, DON'T KNOW IF IT WORKS OR NOT.

The trans is a Borg Warner t - 85 n overdrive. Soem info out there on the web. I have one in the basement for my 1970 c-20 , ( someday ) three trucks in front of that one.

Boardmember Deuce might be able to tell you what my old overdrive was called. He bought my truck and he has the original build list for the truck, but not the overdrive transmission.

Borg Warner sold that trans to everyone from GM to studebaker. The overdrive is steep .66 :1 if I recall correctly. Try this for more info

The Borg Warner super t 10 in my 77 Trans am is the same one used in the Ford Mustang 2 ( how embarasing).

This is a pic of one I sold on here.

There is a 68 GMC 1/2t around here, meaning in our area/not at my place: 37K, 250 w/3spd & OD, all original. I don't think the six has enough power to pull it in OD.

I had a 55 Chevy Bel Air that had a three on the tree with an overdrive actuated by a handle attached to a cable. Came that way from the factory. I don't know any more than that about them except that it worked!

Do you know what model the Chevy's used for the manual overdrive units? Like your Bel Air. Sounds like the Borg Warner was a semi-automatic, very cool, but sounds rare (expensive).

The cars, like my '56 210 wagon, used a saginaw 3 speed overdrive. In the 50's they did not have a synchonized first gear. I have one out of a 67 el camino that I am going to put in my wagon that has the synchro first. Those are very rare with the overdrive. It took me a few years to track one down.
