help please 68' K10
I am looking for both parts and information. My truck has had the front spring hangers mangled by a welder and I believe the best solution is replacement. Does anybody know if I can use different year hangers, or I need to find some specifically for 68'? Also have steering issues, about quarter turn play in steering box. Can you easily put power steering box off a later year (I have one from a 1972 4x4)to fix this? Any kind of information or help would be greatly appreciated.

you should be able to use some hangers from a '73-87 up GM 4x4.

I believe the hangers are the same for 67-72 4wd. On the power steering, look at the frame where the box mounts. If it has 4 bolt holes dimpled about 1/4" toward the tire and a larger dimple (between the 4 bolts) 1/4" inward toward the engine.....then the power steering box off any 69-87 4wd should work. If your frame is like my 67 4wd, it's perfectly flat, then you will need to modify the frame by adding a section from a later frame or by heating and beating the heck out of the frame to get the dimples. You need the dimples to allow for the new box to mount flat. Do not just add 3/8" or so of spacers, this will mess up the steering geometry. Greg

If it helps, my 68 does not have the dimpled frame or so far as I have seen, no 68s that I know of have the frame dimple. I became the standard Power steering setup in 69. 68 and before had the power steering cylinder in the front steering linkages.

Thanks for the info. guys. I have not taken the box off yet, but looking at my frame, I am pretty sure it is flat. I am trying to stay as original as possible, so not interested in messing with the frame. Oldblue60, what would be the chance of getting a picture of your spring hangers on the front? I bought a '72 4x4 for parts but the hangers look different than the '68. Thanks again for replying.

Frame parts
68 lwb, I have a 68 K-20 frame for parts if you need any stuff off of it. Some stuff is useable and some isn't.

Willis, I am looking for the front spring hangers, if they are the same between 1/2 and 3/4 ton. If you have them, and you can cut the rivets to take them off let me know what you want.
Thanks!! Jeff |
