THM 350 trans problems!
anyone got any ideas whats wrong with this thing ,its a thm-350 in a 79 chev 1/2 ton 4x4.It has park ,reverse,neutral,1st,2nd,BUT NO 3rd it will not shift into 3rd gear at all fluid is full nice and cleen.Can it be a modulator prob?Govenor prob?any ideas will be a help.

It could be something wrong with e kick down something holding it tight ???

Thats what mine did about two days before it lost everything.
Pull the governor out and see if the valve moves back and forth when you move the weights. But if it only stays out of 3rd, the governor is not likely the cause. -Jeremy |

thanx guys anything is a try and better than pulling this tranny and yes only 3rd is gone.

Hi ,
I got sometimes the same problem on my 1977 Impala ( 250ci / TH350 ) ... while driving , put your speed selector from D to N & back to D , and see if the 3d speed engages ... if yes , change your oil bath & filter , it could solve the problem , it did for me anyway... seems strange , huh ?    have no idea where it comes from , sometimes I just have to play with that selector a little ( a little bit up ) , and the third speed engages , I must have a link & rod problem too ... greetz the Baron
