Got a new stereo for the 70, my dad's day gift. Gave alot of thought about mounting it without cutting the dash. This was very low buck, had all the parts laying around. That ammo can is bolted through the bottom of the dash and brace with a 1/2 inch bolt. The bolt had 2 part epoxy on the threads. The lid is locked with a padlock to the can. I used the packing styrofoam to hold the radio in place and absorb shock. Cut holes in the back of the can for the wires and antenna wire. Used an existing hole to bolt to the dash. The front speakers are some old surround sound ones I had laying around. I know it looks kinda goofy, but it will take a sawzall or torch to get it out if the lid is locked!!!

Well, I had to do something. The wife was starting to think I did not like what she got me(the radio).Actually, it only took about 3 hours start to finish, counting time off between rain showers. Wiring is easy when you can ignore all the factory crap and just run your own. The speaker wires hanging down by the shifter will go under the new rubber floor covering.

Cool. If your gonna drive with the radio on and with its door closed, you may want to drill some vent holes so it does not overheat.
Are you related to the PO of my blazer who installed a power outlet in my engine compartment?

Holy ghetto batman I would have just wrapped the radio in ducktape and and let it hang from one of he bolts, like a custom suspension for it, hey it would never skip.

I mounted my radio below the dash as well (not in an ammo can), but put it directly under the heater controls so my knee wouldn't hit it. Your right knee may hit that thing where it sits now.

This pic should show how much clearance there is tween my leg and the box. Trust me, space is NOT an issue!!

Also-when you've got that ammo can open,a guy should be able to slide the lid up in your case and completly remove the lid while your cruising.

That is a great idea but I think I would have mounted it between the seats or even under the seat but thats just me as I hate to have things hanging below the dash on my trucks.... Very creative idea though....
