Stereo mount
My son wants to mount a new stereo in his truck and i don't want to cut the dash. I would like to build a wood console to hold this stereo and mount it on the hump. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of a wooden console that will fit on the hump in this truck. Thanks

Just cut it. It'll be the best decision you will ever make. Just do it right. Don't use a sawzall, or tin snips. Trace out the pattern using the head unit carriage, and use a dremel with a carbide bit. Take your time and do it right. Cut it so that the carriage fits tight in the hole, bend the tabs back, and slide the new unit in. Don't be scared to cut the dash, it doesn't make the difference when you go to sell it or get it appraised. But with that said I have diagrams for an underseat box that houses both speakers and the head unit+ an amp if you want one. Never mind, I just remembered that my other hard drive died and took my diagram with it. Sorry.

Here is a pic from the interior of HvyChevy454's truck. This console would be ideal for your application. If I remember correctly, it was built by his uncle.

I would not cut the dash..ever. My son and I made an aluminum box with no back and attached it to the bottom of the dash below the heater/ac control. He painted it black and put his stereo in and it looks pretty good. He made the wooden box for the hump and mounted the two 10" subs in this. It's shaped kind of like a toilet with one speaker pointed up and the other one forward at a slight angle. He covered it with that grey trunk lining like new cars have.

Just get the original consoles that came in our trucks, either take out the cup/seatbelt holder insert and mount it there, or mount it inside the console itself. Get yourself a delete plate for the dash, and go.....................JB
