Mystery wire...

I was rolling arround under my truck yesterday (so much fun) looking for a oil leak when I saw a wire that was not connected. It came right down to the transmission (I have a 3 on the tree) and looks like it should connect right next to the engine side linkage bolt. I would have taken a pic but it would be too close to focus.

At first I thought it might be for the backup lights, but then I remembered that the backup lights are controlled by a switch on the colum, and the backup lights work even though this wire is broken off.

Any ideas?

Goes to TCS switch (transmission controlled spark). Early emmissions control system. In essence:

An emissions-control system to prevent distributor vacuum advance at normal operating temperature until the transmission has shifted into high gear by using a transmission-mounted electric switch controlling a solenoid-actuated vacuum valve.

Whoah. That was a bit over my head. But I think I get the gist. Emission thingy. Will it hurt to leave it off? Or does it make the engine run less efficient?

Ahhh, so its you that's responsible for this summer's heat wave. Fix that wire dammit

Seriously, if your social concious allows it, leave it alone, your truck will be fine...though the rest of us may suffer.
