I'm brainstorming my project and had a few ideas for the frame.
I'm going to weld all the riveted brackets on and grind off all the rivets. Then fill all the unnecessary holes, and completely smooth the frame itself. I don't think there is a place around my area to get the frame powder coated, could I have the frame painted and be able to make it last? I don't really want to POR-15 it either.
I want a nice show quality finish. I'm thinking a nice gray finish to go with an eye searing yellow paint job.

Sounds like a lot of work, but I bet it will look great! I don't know if I could count all the holes in the frame. I say go for it! Have the frame blasted add a coat of epoxy primer followed by fill primer, block it out and then a base coat, clear coat finish. Good luck and post the pics......Stroker

Make the paint last?
Many of these trucks are 30 to 35 years old with factory painted frames, and they still look great. OK! they may not look great, but many still look good (except trucks from the rust belt).
Do the paint!

Sorry to jump in on your post. I'm in progress on a frame off restoration. My first long term goal is to have the frame sand blasted before painting. Do I need to replace the bolts on the frame? Is that something that you guys do, or is that just overkill.

As long as the bolts are in good shape (not rusting away), I wouldn't replace them. Too much expense and work. I just sand blasted mine, and had it powder coated. Looks great, and the paint holds up very well. Powder coating comes in so many colors. You could have your frame match you truck body color. Good luck
