Quick 383 Balance Question..
I'm just about ready to build my 383 and I am going to mate it to my Muncie 4 speed in my '68 shortbed. I was wondering if anyone has used a 383 Balance Plate that bolts between the crankshaft and the flywheel? I am kind of weary on using such a thing, but dont really want to buy a manual flywheel for a 400sbc. Any opinions? Thanks!
Douglas.

if the crank was balanced .....it should have had the fly wheel bolted to it to do it correctly !!!!!!

^ what they said! External balance is a little funny to deal with, you can swap flywheels a get a vibe on a stocker. I have seen guys use that balance plate, but i dont think its the best thing to do. If you havent assembled the engine.....best bet would be to take the balancer, crank, clutch cover & flywheel in to have it balanced together. that is the only way to make it truely "right on". best of luck......69L

I'm going to balance the engine with the plate bolted to it. I think thats the idea of the plate, makes a 350 flywheel or flexplate into a 400 flywheel or flexplate sort-a-speak. Just wondering if anyone has used one before. Thanks for the info!
