Will the gears and axles from a 91 rear fit in a 71-72 rear truck the 91 is a sub the older style.

You could swap the hole axle but the gears and axle shafts are different assuming you have stock parts in both your rigs. You also didn't mention if they were 2wd,4wd,1/2ton,3/4ton....there are a ton of variables.

The axles and gears will not fit. If I were going to do the swap, I would use the whole rear end. You can buy a kit from Chevy Duty, Brothers, and several other vendors that sell a conversion. Basically, they supply you with the old style mounts, you cut the 91 style mounts off (leaf spring brackets and such) and weld the old style brackets to the rear end of your choice. I can't remember how much they cost, but if you want to run a newer style rear gear, that's the way to go.
