Can you help me Identify this? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys

I was lying underneath the Trazer looking at a few things and noticed this male plug on the driver's side of the block. Then I saw a female plug dangling down by the frame. I followed the wires up to the radiator where it's ziptied to the frame and the end looks like a extension cord. This might be common knowledge, but I've never seen it before.

It's a block heater.

Sounds like a regular old block heater. It's for the way up north folks.

At about 15 below motor oil is about the consistancy of axle grease and most colant is about the consistancy of a brick.

All the good 'ol boys from the mountain towns in Colorado had block heaters.

I did find if amusing when I was 16 to take the cap off of my radiator and watch the coolant melt as the truck heated up.

I am going to run two block heaters on my 72, one on each side of the block. It gets really cold up here in Canada so its uncommon to find a vehicle without a block heater.

They are pretty common around here, too. The freeze plug ones are the best, but I see a few radiator hose types around.

Oh, and the plug-ins you see outside Motel rooms in Canada aren't to plug in your coffee maker ,eh!
