'67 rear wheel fitment on drums - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've got a '67 with 6 lug disc conversion up front and 6 lug drums out back. The rear drums have a flange that sticks out in the center of the hub (axle flange?) by about 1/4". It is a circle about 3-1/2 - 4" in diameter inside the lugs, has a slot in the middle, and it interferes with my 20" forged wheels. They won't fit with this in the way. What do you guys recommend I do? Is it possible to have this machined down? Or maybe have the wheels machined?

It can be machined down. I just had my six-lug converted to five lug and turning the hub down was part of the process. Later, FCG

So you're saying machining the hub of the wheel right? That sounds like the easier thing to do since it's more mobile and will fit on a lathe a LOT easier. and I don't have to disassemble my axle to get it to the shop. I know I'll have to dismount the tires from the wheels though....

Actually, you will need to remove the axles. It is VERY easy to do. Pull the rear cover, pull the wheels off and the drums. Rotate the carrier until you see the bolt that retains the pin that holds the spider gears in place. Remove the pin and push the axles in and remove the C-Clips. The axles will slide right out.
