Adding Power Brake Booster Questions

My 71 has manual brakes.
Can I just remove a booster and bracket from another truck and install?
Could it be that easy?

I'm thinking maybe need to change the rod from the pedal...?
Use the same master or install the one that's currenty on the booster?

I'd rather not need to 'open' the system but thought I'd check to find out if there's some answer out there.

Thanks.

Yup, it is that easy. (hey, if I did it - it must be)

You will need the power rod, the manual one is too long. You can use the same MC.

Here is my install:

There is an faq on that.. basicaly -- you can use the same master, you'll need a new rod (not the same length) and everything basicaly bolts up .. you need to tap the vacume from the manifold, of course.

Great info guys, I had the same question a while back. If I get a new booster from car quest it does not have the rod with it, where can I get one?

Here's three pictures that I took when I converted my truck to power brakes.

You need the linkage and brackets that go between the booster and firewall. The rod that comes out of the brake booster is not the rod that connects to the brake pedal. There is an intermediate linkage between the booster and pedal.

Study the pictures and you'll see what I mean.

Sorry to tell you this

Yes it's that simple.
You have to bend the break lines a little and add the vaccume hose but it's really easy.

Yeah, I did, good low buck improvement until I can get the disc brakes done.

Huge difference to drive now.

I pulled a booster set up from a 71 2wd 3/4 ton truck and swapped it over to mine, conversion was easy and straight forward.
Used the original master, no brake bleeding needed.

Since I didn't even clean it up, it looks like it's always been there.

Now you're not getting that workout every time you stop.
