TBI install on pre 86 350??

From what I can determine it should be possible to replace the siezed 305 with an earlier 350 in my 87 TBI truck.

I have a few questions for someone who has some experience with this swap.

1. How well would a '73 350 with #492 heads (2.02 int, 1.50 exh), mild cam, and headers run with the 305 TBI installed?

2. Could I use an adapter to install the throttle body on my existing Edelbrock Performer? The intake will accept an EGR valve.

3. Do I need to install a 35O PROM and injectors or will the 305 stuff work?

4. Would it be better to install the O2 sensor in the headers or use the 305 manifolds?

The other alternative would be to install the 350 as a carbed engine in the 87.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

I personally haven't done this swap but the 305 stuff won't support the '73 350.

Yes.....There are TBI adapters that you can install on a carb manifold you may want to chk. advanced adapters for one.

Yes.....You will need to cng. the ECM prom and TBI Injectors for a 350.

The 305 stuff will probably work but not well.

If you have headers id'e use them it's not that much $ to have an 02 bung welded into them.

If you go the carbed 350 route DON'T rip out all the TBI wireing tie it back in case you want to go back to the TBI System.

Personally i'd do this..............Id'e take the TBI Manifold off the old 305 modify it to fit the '73 350 head's get the 350 prom and some injectors and go that route.

But it still may not run right without knowing the spec's on the cam in the '73 350.

The TBI system is a better system for cold start up, tip of throttle, fuel ecomony and maintenance. Over a carburator.

Or you could do this get a 350 TBI Eng. from a junk yard it will be at least an '87 or newer and the prom and the injectors.

The '73 block is 32 years old and in most states that have emissions its illegal to install an older engine into a newer vehicle so that's something you may want to chk your local laws on.
