Header question

Will Camaro/Chevelle headers fit a 2wd 1/2 ton '67-'72 truck?

Chevelle headers!!

Yes, will fit fine. Mine are Dynomax shorty Ceramic, Part number: WLK-86118 on Summits website.

Back in the 80's I bought a used set of headers at a yard sale. The guy said they fit Camaro/Chevelle. They were Hedmans. They fit my 70 350/350 Burb perfectly, no motor mounts to loosen, just unbolted the stock ram horns and dropped the headers in from the top. These were full length, not shorties. Only issue was heat soak with the starter, till I found a factory heat shield and installed it with a little extra insulation.

I sold a project 67 Camaro . Kept the Ceramic Headers HK-2207-1 . Put them on 68 step side. Modified the frame on Passanger side a fraction. Fit very well now. Also heat was a problem for the starter. As mentioned in the message prior to this one.

I have the hedman elite shortys for 60's camaro on mine and I had to modify the motor mounts a little to make them fit but they worked out great!!

svgould, what transmission are you using? My 70 is a 3 speed with the clutch linkage right under the #8 exhaust port. Will those headers work with my setup? What #s and brands will?

I cheaped out and went with the painted version of those.
I tossed those crappy "flow-tech" long tubes in the trash.

I'm using an automatic trans....not sure if linkage on a 3-speed will clear or not.

I dont think you will be able to fit the bellcrank with the 3/4 lenght headers.....probably issues on the shift linkage also, as allready mentioned . For the stick shift trucks, I have found the Hooker comps to fit well. they do hang approx 2" below the frame rails(not what you want on a slammed truck), but on a 3 or 4" drop they work fine. Sandersen has some angled back blockhuggers that will work, but they are a bit pricey. best of luck,crazyL

tn70c10 if your clutch bellcranck is under the 8 port, you have problems other than exhaust routing! Just kidding though. That is 7 port.
I understand that some are at that location. Mine is between 5 and 7 right below the dipstick hole. I am assuming there is a diff between yours and mine. ??

I know that Hedman says that some trucks have the ball stud located at the position you describe and although mine is close to fitting that description I believe it is far enou8gh forward that the location is not a problem.

Can anyone add miore info regarding this stud ball locationfor the bellcrank????????

Ballstud location for the bellcrank...... on the factory 2wd truck with smallblock, the ballstub is located under #7 tube(the ball is on a bracket that bolts to the block in 2 places). If you run I 6 /250 spot , your smallblock gets a screw in ballstud, that goes into the foward most hole on the sb......that puts the bellcrank tween #5 & #7 tubes . I think you will also fid the 4x4's set up the 2nd way listed (someone straighten me up , if I lied on the 4x4 stuff!), i just havent been into them. i would like to see a pic of the dr side on the 3/4 lenght headers......but i think you will have a big azz headache trying to stuff a bellcrank through them even in I 6 position (I havent tryed it tho!). best of luck,crazyL

Wolfthing you caught me...ive been a Ford man for years but love my truck. Sometimes I forget im working on a Chevy.Anyway, yeah my ballstud is on the bracket with 2 bolts that is below and behind the #7. Is this the configuration that the Sandersen headers fit? Anybody got the part #?

Thanks Guys! Ive got an old set of chevelle camaro headers up on the wall & the kid wants them on his '69. I didnt want to go through all the work if they wouldnt fit. Im getting tired of buying parts for his truck. Im never going to get mine done at this rate... corn
