What is the steps of replacing a 250 I6 rear main seal? It looks totally different than a 350's

The rear main bearing cap must be removed then you can use a small punch to drive the seal out. It helps if someone can rotate the crank while you tap on the seal. To install the new one, the gasket set I bought came with a little plastic shim that you use to "shoehorn" the new seal in place. The shim prevents damage to the seal as you start it into the block. Again, rotating the crank as you push the seal into place will make the job easier.

is it hard to remove the bearing cap?

You have to remove the oil pan and then use a breaker bar to remove the 2 bolts that hold the main cap in place. It is a lot easier if the engine is removed from the truck. My engine is bolted to an engine stand right now so it is way easier to work on.

You should replace the rear main bearing along with the new rear seal or the fix will be only temp.
