Nothing really, unless you are hauling extremely heavy loads. Then you might want to use higher ply tires.

set-up lower to the ground, easier to get lowered vehicles up on it

Construction is the main diff between them. I use "P" tires on pickups and trailers that don't see alot of weight(not on car trailers unless just running around town because they won't last). LT for Light truck seeing weight and towing. ST(special Trailer) for trailers used on highways and higher loads(car hauler). Then there are load ranges also of B C and D. Do not get Carlise tires for trailers..they are junk and blow all the time. You might want to check out the Rv site as they discuss tires constantly.

You're best off going with an actual trailer tire. Trailer tires take a lot of side to side stress when turning and such, which car tires are not designed for. Trailer tires are also narrower, which helps by decreasing rolling resistance. You can usually find them for under $50 a tire.

I built my trailer using mobile home axles...get the tires with rims from the local manufactured home seller for $30 a piece and can pick from the pile of about 25 to 30! The axles were $75 with brakes and $40 with out...bounces a little when unloaded but the price was right (as Bob Barker would say) LOL

Moble home axles and tires are not to be used for towing.
They are for moving a moble home frome one place to the other, at low speed and very infrequently, like once or twice in the moble homes lifetime. Just my .02 CCDually Last edited by GMC1tondually4dr; 08-03-2005 at 11:27 PM. |

never use trailer house axles for car trailers, always use axles that we made to haul heavy loads all the time.

I don't travel too far from home and have never had a problem, btw a mobile home weighs way more than my trailer with a vehicle on it. If I were concerned safety wise I wouldn't have used them...safety always should come first in my opinion!!

I worked with a mobile home seller, and after we got a home set the axles were sent back to the factory so they could go under another trailer. I always thought that was how it worked for the most part. So those axles could sit under several homes every year.
I don't see any problem with using them.
