50th Longhorn Original Wheel and Tire

I am working on "driveability" items and had to change the rearend oil...got to protect that Detroit locker! I pulled the spare and noticed it was the original and still had some air in it. I had to clean it up to see what it will look like when I am done with the stock resto. Those tall skinny Uniroyal Fleet Carriers on split rims are kind of cool...different look!

Hey...you guys should be out enjoying this nice weather...watching the hydros! I am doing yard work today and trying to get the Longhorn so I can go pick up some parts!

Mark, Can the short wheelbase truck be towed on a dolly or will I need a trailer. My trailer guy with the big hauler will not be back until Tuesday! Did you pick up your black truck '72 yet?

yeah i got the black truck home. as far as a dolly goes...maybe? lol. remember that cab isnt bolted down. i would move it for you per your offer except im swamped with other things right now. someone parked a horse trailer in front of it anyway, so you have a bit of a reprieve till they get it out of the way. i will give you a heads up on it.

Mark, Thanks...my helper gets back on Tuesday. Congrats on finally getting that black truck! I have a good set of 396 heads for that motor (will need to be freshened up) if you ever need them....FREE!

I used a U-Haul car dolly to tow a C-30 from Memphis TN to Milwaukee WI. The truck didn't fit the dolly, but after 6 stops to take care of things, I made it with out a scratch or ticket.

Just curious, I've seen split rims mentioined many times before, and I don't know what they are. It looks like the center of the rim is only connected with the outer ring in a few spots, is this right and is that what a split rim is? If so, then I don't understand what is heavy duty about them. I would seem to me that a one peice rim would be stronger.

The rim is solid except for the lock ring that goes around the whole rim and snaps into a groove in the wheel. I don't know if they're stronger than 1 piece rims, but when you have the old school 8 ply tires on it, it'll have a higher load range than tubeless radial tires. I think the factory 7.5-16's had a load range of about 2750lbs for each tire. I had two of 'em on the back of my truck with a 1000lb welding machine in the bed so that brought the trucks weight up to about 6000lbs and they held up good.
