distributor question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 68 with a 327 and the original distributor and mechanical points. Can anyone recommend a replacement distributor with electronic ignition that a rookie could easily install? Not looking for high performance at this point. Thanks

A stock junk yard HEI is pretty hard to beat. If you look around a bit, you'll find one with a new module, coil, cap and rotor. PPl will try to tune up a car to get it running and then tow it to the junk yard once they run out of cash and give up. I bought at least a dozen like so in the last few years. Heck, I got a junk yard HEI for my caddy 500 with an accell super coil on top, and a brand new set of accell wires to...all this for 20 buck.
You just can't go wrong there.

Simple to wire, it's almost as easy as a simple remove and install. Look on the FAQ page, there are a couple write ups on this.

I just put one in the 283 in the 67. It sure made a difference. Of course it would since the mechanical advance mechanism was rusted together and would not advance. I gave $30 for dist, cap, and a pretty decent set of wires.
