well, how do i make a long story short?.....i wanted to get a little bit lower....

here's the "before" pics

my truck before was lowered 3/4....3"spindles in the front, and 2" shackles, and 2" hangers in the rear

it wasnt really low enough

so, i tried different combinations of shackles with drop hangers, stock hangers with drop shackles..etc....

so, i got me a flip kit, and now have the flip on the rear, with my 2" lowering shackles for a total rear drop of 7"

i tried to cut a coil off the front...wasnt quite low enough...so i cut another coil off....damn....dropped it 4"

so now i have actually a 7" front, and a 7" rear drop...but it really dont look all that bad

i only have the stock 235's on the front...and it does rub the inners when i hit a big bump, ....but only a "big" bump...and it dont rub in the turns at all....

but...i ended up ordering western chassis' 2.5" lowering coils for the front anyways...so my caster/camber is more correct...

hope i never bored anyone....just hope some of my misfortunes my help someone in the quest for answers on lowering these things

What exactly does the flip kit do? Just allow you to flip the axle over? Does it require weldeing or cutting of some sort?

well, i ordered 2.5" lowering springs for the front...it should raise the front up about 1.5" which would allow me to hit bumps

...i will then have an approx 5.5" in the front, and 7" in the rear...(that should be right)

i didnt have to c-notch nothin....but then again, i dont plan on haulin anything either....i put myself, my "ace" mechanic, and his nephew in the bed, and we all jumped on it to see if the frame would hit the rear end

....it didnt

the flip kit just puts the springs under the rear end...i got the western chasis flip kit from www.sporttruckdirect.com ....it dont require welding...you "can" do a c-notch...but i know first hand...you "really" dont need to "in my opinion"

you'd think that bugger would be on the ground. But our trucks as 2WD's are so dang tall

I dont even wanna THINK how low I am in the back. Looks great though. How wide are the rims?

i did the same thing...cut one coil off the bottom which really didnt coutn as like a full coil it was more like 2/3 of a coil and wasnt quite low enough so i took another full coil off and boom looked like i was bagged. oh well, drops come at the cost of a little comfort and practicality but look *****in...your truck is looking awesome!

I may have missed your thread on it, if there was one, but what model front-end clip do have on that rightous ride? I too have a 87 GMC, but didn't get lucky with a short bed. Hope it grows up to as sick yours or others on the board.

Also how many leafs are in the rear?

Ok, so I was "sorta" right about it rubbing. Not as bad as we predicted though. All I can say is WOW! That looks soooo much better. It looked good before, but it just didn't quit have "the look". Now it does....

That truck just jumped way up in my book of kick ass! That little bit of drop changed the whole appearance.

I have been debating on a 2.5/4 or a 3/5 drop.. i was worried that 3/5 would be too much.. but after seeing yours.. i think I will go with the 3/5 ..

I think it's actually supposed to be darker grey, but it's faded so much I like the lighter grey. Here's a pic of my faded original paint

front end is the 89-91 suburban style...bolts right up....
