doors and other parts wanted
I am helping find some parts for 72 blazer. Need good rust free 72 doors, rear lift hatch (or can someone tell me if fiberglass is repairable on lower corners of hatch), full AC dash uncut (removed at spot welds). Also would be intereested to hear about rust repair on top corners of windshield frame.
The truck may need some good welding help. Are lower corners of doors repairable with bubbling rust showing or is it usually too late. (remember most guys are not as literate as efabman on sheetmetal repair). When repairing rusty rockers are truck replacement rockers used? (rocker boxes may be ok, do they need removed to decide)? Do rocker boxes just unbolt? Also like the idea recently discussed on roll bars. In past I'm sure I've seen a 3 piece bolt together rear hoop that bolts to floor, did anyone find out if smittybuilt has this unit? I'm not real familiar with blazers just trying to gatehr advise.

You can buy new hatches. Mothertruckers has them. Last I checked they were around $385. There are a lot of people (including myself) looking for used replacements. If you hatch is repairable, ie the damage isn't structural, your probably best to try your hand at working with fiberglass.
You can use a dash from a truck for the AC dash. Windshields look like a lot of work to me. I have no idea how to go about that issue, but there are pleny of others on the board who have done the repair/replacement. For the repair panels, a lot of the truck panels will work ont the blazers. Rocker panels are the same. If your rocker boxes seem solid, it probably isn't worth it to remove them. They are welded in place. If your floor boards are getting replaced, you'll be able to see down into the boxes to determine the damage, if any, from the inside. Smittybuilt does (or did) make the roll bars. They also sell a kit for making a cage onto the roll bar. Someone posted a link to a company still selling them. (sorry, i'm going to let you do the manual search for the link).

Hey Bob... I still have the 2 sets of 67-71 Doors with YOUR name on them.. I can meet you 1/2 way at 7 feathers!
If FRENCHBLUE72 (Luke) passes, I have a rear hatch complete with hindges that needs a bit of fiberglass work off a 71 Blazer. Ill ask if he is still wanting it if you are interested. Could do a sawzall to the doors and bingo! Blazer doors. I can even put a self tapper screw near the wing window! LOL Last edited by Phillip Johnson; 10-21-2003 at 02:07 AM. |

thanks
kilomanjaro, thanks but I'll pass on your dash.
Phillip; I would rather find set of blazer doors instead of time to modify pickup ones. This truck is still in limbo pending plans to make it right. We probably wouldn't get going on it unless parts could be found to "save" it. I have seen doors before, just need to be patient and see. Hatch may be of some interest if the 2 combined might be better 1. Don't wreck those 68 doors buy cutting them or installing "self" tapping screws Has anyone successfully taken apart a 72 door and rewelded/glued the tab that holds the inner and outer skins together when 72 only screw is installed? These welds appear to break during their 31 years of vibration Maybe JB weld or ?
