DEALER installed A/C question.

I will be getting the under dash unit soon. However, I will be needing the under hood aspect and possibly the hoses. I have checked a couple of catalogs but have not found anything for this option. Does someone have pics of the underhood setup for the dealer installed air? Looking for what brackets and compressor to look for. I assume I can use the same drier and condensor that is used for the factory A/C. Truck has a 350 in it with the new style alt on the PASS side. Need to know what I need to keep alt where it's at. I can move it to DR side if I need to (I have the brackets).

Is this the system you are refering to:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=164937

I am looking for the same thing. If you have everything under the dash, to the firewall, and a stock condensor & drier, then you are about where I am. For the A/C lines, you will need either the stock ones from the aftermarket kit or lines from a pre 71' Burb with the tunnel roof air system(see picture below, I got artistic for you ). You will also need barbed fittings for the rubber lines to attach to the condensor & drier. The lines are different than those on a pickup truck with the factory installed 4 seasons system as the pickup truck lines have the low pressure valve on the POA valve, whereas the pre 71 Burb & underdash systems didn't use a POA valve... 72' Burb with A/C is same hose as pickup...

Once you have the lines figured out, the compressor & brackets & pullies are the same as the factory A/C unit(if you are using the system pictured in the link above). If you are using a different system, the operating principles are still the same so the above mentioned parts should work fine

If you have a copy of the Factory Service Manual, they discuss the service procedures for this system in there under the "GM-Chevrolet Air Conditioning System".

Old Air Products sell reproduction condensers and lines. You can get brackets for long or short pump and left or right side to use Sanden compresser. Heres a pic of their mount. You can buy parts or a kit. It replaces the original heater unit with heat/A/C. Or you can go the auto wrecker and buy parts to use the factory type A-6 compresser on the drivers side which is what I did on mine. The long pump parts are plentiful in the yards. Hope this helps some. John

I dont want to intrude on your thread but I have a quick question while we are on the subject. I added freon to mine yesterday and it is working great except, only the high speed works on the fan. Do I need a new switch or something like that ? Any other ideas?

Your fan resistor went bad. It is located above the blower motor assembly. You should be able to get to it by removing the glove box liner instead of dropping the unit and losing your charge... It is held on with 2 3/16" screws... See attached pics of mine... The part # on the blower resistor made by INDAK is: PN# 3929051.

An interesting note, yours is almost identical to mine but I did notice that they changed the area where the switches are. Yours looks like the City/Highway & Lo/Med/Hi are molded directly into the plastic whereas mine has a seperate plastic bezel with an aluminum trim plate with the lettering printed on it.

Since yours is complete & working, would you be able to get a couple of pics of how the hoses connect to the condensor & the drier? Mine was incomplete when I got it so I don't know how/what it's supposed to look like

From what I remember, I think it is the same as the blower resistor for the regular A/C systems. Try one of the board vendors, they will be able to let you know if it is the correct P/N...

Make sure you get one for a/c, not heat. The heat only one is different(pn# 3929052)
