SBC Engine Id Numbers

Found the numbers on the block pad in front of the right cylinder head. That gave me some info. Also located the casting numbers on the back left side which gave me more details as well. Looking for vin numbers to match the truck. Did they put them on a 72? Is it on the right side where I can't really see well? It appears to be the original engine, but would just like to confirm it. Also anyone know where there is a id book or something to located the numbers on the other parts like trans, rearend, ect. Thanks for the help.

There are numbers on the passenger side rear shelf that tell you some dates. I have a MSA-1 book that lists the suffix codes. Send me the info you have and I will try and break it down.

They did not start putting VINs on truck engines until 1973. Cars started much earlier.
