Last year of the inline six.

What year was it that GM quit putting inline six bangers in trucks? I know Ford quit putting the 300 in trucks in 1996 GOD THAT WAS A GREAT PEICE OF WORK.

In cars it was 79 (my BelAir had one) & in trucks, if my memory serves, it was around 84 - 87.

I am pretty sure it was 85 for the pickups. I want to say I think some of the commercial step vans used them through 87.

You could still get a inline 6cylinder and 3 on the tree through 1987, last year for the square body style.

I'm pretty sure 292's were available in 1 tons up to 1989. Also, Tx Firefighter is right, like it not, the 300 Ford was a geat engine

I got one in a '88 F-150 that was my work truck when I was contracting and I can't even imagine how or why it still runs. The OD quit at 225,000 and was dead for three years until the transfer case went out, then it came back to life with the new T/C and it says about 275,000 now. I know it's really about 350,000 or so. It leaks a lot of oil, but it don't burn a drop. I wouldn't hesite for a second taking it on a road trip tomorrow with no tools. OK, that might be stretching it.

Pritch, I guarantee you the oil leaking is the oil pan gasket. I'd guess I've changed over 50 of them on Ford pickups. The Ford gasket failed fairly quickly, but a Fel-Pro will fix it for good.

In my opinion, GM inline engines are third, out of three. Ford 300 is number one, and Chrysler 225 slant 6 is number 2, followed by GM's 250 or 292.

I agree with you TXFirefighter....300 F--ds will yank down buildings and run forever and I loved my ole 225 slant sixes.

According to Leo Santuccis "chevrolet Inline six cylinder power manual" these blocks are still made in mexico. But for what applications i do not know or if GM has anything to do with it.

I admit I am a Ford lover, And I know for saying that I'll probably get shot or kick off the site, but fords r what i grew up with hell I'm using a 292 Y-block in my rat rod, i own a ford zx2, but i love the looks of the 67-72 GMC/CHEVY.

The Trailblazers and Envoys have a Inline 6 in them. They are new but still an Inline 6.
