Question Changing out PS belt

Anybody got some good scoop as to how to change out and adjust a PS belt? Do I need to take off all the other belts first? How do I loosen the PS belt and adjust tension? Oh, BTW, it's a 1984 C10 with 305......

Yes, you need to remove at least the water pump belt since it sits in front of the PS belt. All you need to do is loosen the PS pump bolts that bolt thru the PS brackets and pivot the pump enough to allow the belt to slide off/on.

How many bolts am I looking for? I see one, that looks like when loosened, allows the pump to slide some--tighten and loosen----there are more bolts?

Yeah there are three one the water pump, one in the driver side cylinder head and one around the exhaust manifold area in the front depending if you have a/c. But it will still be in the same area just not on the exhaust manifold. Most have some type of bracket to help support the ps pump.

I use a small adjustable wrench to tighten the belt back up on the ps pump.

Uhhh yeah, 3 bolts need to be loose to move it for adjustment. I think there are two that loosen and will then be able to move but if the third bolt is tight it isn't going to move much if any. It is more fun trying to tighten the belt back up with one hand and tighten all the bolts back up with the other. But it can be done.

Forgot to add to there are two bolts to loosen the alternator to get that belt of also. One at the bottom going into the cylinder head and the other is on the top alternator bracket.

If you need I can send you pictures how to do it. I will need your email address though. Let me know
