Cheap like GOLD. I got it for $2700 and did the install myself. But to me it was worth it to get dual use out of the truck. But you are right. They aren't cheap!

jc, this is a gear vendors...not governer. This is a gear splitter that ives you fiest gear with high and low, second gear with high and low, and third gear with high and low gear...making a 3 speed a 6 speed.
What you have described is a rev limiter.

very cool. how did you hook it up? did it need some on-the-dash control? Or is it all done on the carb/gas pedal?

That sure looks like ALOT of stress on the transfer case output housing to hold that whole thing up in the air like that. Try holding 2 lbs out at arms length allday. How much does the unit weigh? I'm sure it's neat-o though!

I would guess its about 50 pounds. The NP205 transfer case is really thick cast and it should hold up ok. When I pulled the case I had to use a floor jack, man that thing is built!

The unit has a control switch that hangs under the dash to put it on automatic or manual control. It also indicates when its in od or normal. It has an electronic control box mounted inside the cab on the firewall that all the wires go to and it makes the decision to shift or not shift. Also there is a floorboard switch like our headlight dimmer switch that you can push and shift in and out of od when you are in manual mode. It uses a signal generator hooked in with the speedometer to give the brain speed information needed for making the decision to shift on automatic. Everything is color coded and the control box connections are keyed so you can't hardly hook it up wrong. Its really no biggie to do, I just had other stuff to adapt the th400.

Very cool.

What if you were in 1st gear and in 4 wheel drive going up a slick hill...then accidently kicked the floor button into OD ???

Would there be a BOOM?

Weellllll, There is a provision for a lockout when you are in 4wd. I haven't installed a switch to activate it cause I just turn it off. I put my foot switch up higher on the floorboard so there isn't much chance of hitting it.

Dash switch with status indicators. You can see the floor switch on the floor underneath it. Its safely up high out of the way.

This is the "Brains" of the unit. You can see the 4x4 lock out socket is empty. The little black rectangle is actually a digital readout that tells you different things like how many times od has been engaged etc.

I'm jealous! I'd love to have a gear vendors unit, but they're darn expensive. I think I'll probably end up going with a 5 or 6 speed manual, that's the only way I'll truly be happy anyway.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think the Gov-something jc is looking at on the option sticker could possibly be a Gov-Lok Posi unit. Maybe not, but I do know there is such a thing is a gov-lok.
